'Tis a gift to be simple. Yet, somehow things are never simple in the Whitfield household. We have made the decision to adopt a child (or two!) from Ethiopia. Please check our blog from time to time for the latest in our adoption journey. Your prayers and support are always welcome!

Home Study

We were approved! Thanks mostly to Josh’s smooth talking.

We will have to wait until early March to receive the home study report. Once we have that we can begin to apply for adoption grants!

Because we asked for a sibling pair, the social worker told us the wait would probably be a year or a year and a half. We’ve waited this long, what’s another year and a half?!

Postponed due to inclement weather…

Our home study is now Monday, December 22nd. Darn sleet!

Monday, December 8, 2008

Thanks for all your prayers! Our application was found and we are really moving now. Our home study is Tuesday, December 16th.

Mom is coming over on Saturday to help me clean out our spare room, AKA the junk room, and soon to be known as the nursery!

Hello Family and Friends!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with several family members at our house. Everyone ate my cooking and survived to tell about it!

Of course we couldn’t stop talking about how excited we are to adopt! While we were celebrating my cousin, Tavish, came up with the brilliant idea to have an adoption fundraiser. So, I have added the “Chip In” link you see on your right. As I am sure you are all aware the cost of an international adoption is significant and since the Whitfield’s are nothing like the Jolie-Pitts (I’m sure she never had a panic attach while trying to complete her adoption paperwork!) we would be so grateful for anything you may want to “chip in.” In case you’re curious about what kinds of expenses come with an international adoption I’ll give you a brief description of some of the fees.

$7,350 to Gladney (this is after Josh’s clergy discount!)
$1,400 Immigration
$7,500 Aid to Africa
$7,500 Travel
For a total of $23,750

We’re thinking for every dollar donated we will give you the opportunity to change a diaper or kiss a boo boo, whichever you prefer.

This is for real!

This is for real! We dropped off our application at Gladney today. We still have a ton of paperwork to finish but, hopefully we will get our homestudy completed in the next month.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Well, we’ve been working on our application for almost a month. This could be a long process.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has agreed to be a reference for us!
More to come…
